If you can’t sleep, your body is in chaos!
The good news is, your body wants to be in balance. And it has an innate intelligence to heal itself. We are meant to have no symptoms, to feel at ease, to sleep well.
When the body gets out of balance, it’s in chaos. It’s in dis-ease.
There is a battle going and chaos is winning.
You’re in metabolic chaos.
What does metabolic chaos mean?
Well, your metabolism refers to every function that’s happening in your body at the same time.
And chaos means complete disorder and confusion.
So when you’re in metabolic chaos, your body has lost balance in many different systems which leads to dysfunction and disease throughout the entire body.
What causes metabolic chaos?
Stress causes metabolic chaos! There are 3 kinds of stress we can experience:
1.Mental stress
- Fear
- Worry
- Excitement
- Anxiety
- Relationships
- Existential angst (anxiety about life)
- Lack of purpose
- Negative mindset
2. Physical trauma
- Fractures
- Muscle injuries or weakness
- Nerve compression
- Repetitive or positional injury
- Intense or prolonged exercise
- Poor posture
- Accidents
3. Physiological stress
- Inflammatory foods, food additives
- Pesticides, herbicides, GMOs
- Alcohol, caffeine
- Blood sugar imbalances
- Prescription drugs, antibiotics
- OTC drugs
- Recreational drugs
- Chemicals, heavy metals
- Radiation, EMFs
- Exogenous hormones such as birth control
- Parasite, bacteria, fungi, viruses
- Sleep deprivation
- Lack of exercise
- Allergies and an overactive immune system
Metabolic chaos
In the chart above, metabolic chaos in the middle and the different systems in the body are in circles around it: the immune system, hormones, digestion, detox, energy production, nervous system, and oxidative stress system.
You can see that the arrows from metabolic chaos to each system go in both directions. This is because stress from each system causes metabolic chaos and then metabolic chaos causes more systems to break down.
Which system breaks down first depends on our genetic weak links and individual metabolism. This is why some people, like us, can’t sleep when we’re out of balance. And other people sleep just fine but they get different symptoms such as skin issues, or digestive issues, or aches and pains, etc.
The metabolic chaos cascade
Over time, stress cascades into metabolic chaos which leads to these imbalances:
- HPA axis and adrenal dysfunction
- Cortisol dysregulation, circadian rhythm problems
- Dysbiosis, biofilm, biotoxins, leaky gut
- Poor nutrient breakdown and absorption
- Bacterial and yeast overgrowth
- Hormone imbalance
- Oxidative stress and toxicity
- Sluggish liver and detox problems
- Inflammation
- Immune system deficiencies
How to reverse metabolic chaos
There are 3 stages of treatment.
1. The first is called relief care. This is treating the symptom. This is what conventional medicine excels at. The problem is, relief care can make the imbalances in the body worse, leading to more metabolic chaos. It can increase or change symptoms in the long run even if it suppresses them in the short-term.
It’s similar to trying to solve a backup of traffic by extending the green light in one direction. What happens is that then the cars move to other streets which backs up there. The problem hasn’t gone away, it’s just moved.
2. The second stage is corrective care. It’s realizing that the root cause is metabolic chaos, that there’s no single root cause. It involves identifying as many healing opportunities as possible to help the body get back in balance.
It involves more than just treating test results and getting the numbers “in range” on paper. Instead, it’s about restoring function.
This is what I’m trained to do and what we focus on at The Sleep Detective (formerly the Complete Sleep Solution).
3. Once the body is back in balance, then you move to the maintenance phase which involves staying in balance and healthy.
Example of the conventional approach to thyroid issues
In the conventional method, a doctor or practitioner identifies a patient with thyroid symptoms such as:
- Weight gain
- Fatigue
- Cold hands and feet
- Dry skin and hair loss
- Poor sleep
- Brain fog
- Muscle aches
The doctor will test thyroid levels and confirm that thyroid levels are off and so something must be wrong with the thyroid gland. Then he prescribes medicine or supplements to bring test results in range. He/she will monitor your levels with tests and adjust medications as necessary.
Maybe some of your symptoms get better initially. But what usually happens is that symptoms either come back or new symptoms appear because he isn’t addressing why the thyroid is acting up.
My method for addressing thyroid issues
It’s usually not the thyroid itself that’s the problem. It’s the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Thyroid axis.
For example, the hypothalamus might not be communicating with the pituitary because of neurotransmitter deficiencies; hormone imbalance; immune, nervous system or limbic system malfunction; or brain toxicity.
The pituitary might not be signaling correctly because of endotoxins, excess cortisol, inflammation or toxicity.
T4 might not be converting to T3 correctly because of liver or gut dysfunction.
Thyroid cells could be affected by increased cortisol, endotoxins, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, or mitochondrial dysfunction.
When you address these imbalances, the thyroid can function normally!
It’s the same with sleep. Insomnia isn’t the problem. It’s a symptom of a bigger problem, which is metabolic chaos.
This is why there’s not just one root cause, not just one thing causing your insomnia.
This is why we need to look at everything and get your body out of chaos and back in balance so you can sleep normally.
This is exactly what we help you with. As The Sleep Detective, I use lab testing and assessments to find what’s causing metabolic chaos in your body so we know what systems to support.
It’s different for everyone. That’s why my program is customized for each of my amazing clients so that they all get better.
Good sleep is inevitable for everyone. The key is to get out of chaos and back in balance!
