Sleep longer and live healthier and happier
I'm excited to be writing a new column in the Jackson Hole News and Guide. Called Shut Eye, it's focused on the need for good z’s for adults and children. It will appear every six weeks in the Valley section.
For last week's column, I talked about the epidemic that is happening in our country right now: we aren't getting enough sleep. According to the CDC, a third of Americans don’t get enough sleep, meaning they sleep less than seven hours a night!
There are 2 sides to this problem: on the one hand, we don’t prioritize sleep in our society. On the other hand, many us have a hard time sleeping. I discussed prioritizing sleep in this column.
It's only in recent history that we started thinking of sleep as important. Everything changed with the Industrial Revolution and the invention of the lightbulb. Modern technology of computers, cell phones, and TV has only made the problem worse.
